• The More You Know - Vol. 9

Attachment 3727Welcome to the Master Doctor Count Von Homash Mailbag. MDCVHM for short. It's been almost a month since the last mailbag, but I still want to answer all the questions submitted for the mailbag in that time. Shouldn't take long, and since there are only a few real questions submitted, I might make a few up. I still only edited the parts with dirty words. Here we go!

A lot of the people in our local area only like playing with the comic based sets/cards. Any thoughts on how to get them to try out the D&D and YuGiOh sets as well?
    -Jigsaw hc

MDCVH: Honestly, this is a great question. One that I know @Dave, @Isaac, and @Shadowmeld will probably have much better answers for than me, but that doesn't make me any less right on the matter. I say just beat them senseless with YGO and D&D cards until they have no choice but to buy some of them to keep pace!

JThomasH2: Editor's note - This statement is not representative of the official opinions of TRP or TRP staff in any way, shape, or form and should only be taken for entertainment value.

MDCVH: Oh, get off it already. You're worried about hurting someone's feelings?

    JThomasH2: Let's just move on...

Oh Herculean Master Doctor Count Von Homash. Answer me this. Besides Batman, who is the greatest superhero that doesn’t have super powers? Ironman, Hawkeye, Green Arrow, Nightwing?
    -hwetzel

JThomasH2: Seriously, why do you feed the ego?

MDCVH: Appetites do one thing, there, Hoss. They grow. Unless you starve it entirely, appetites only get bigger. He's doing me a favor and I thank him for it. Now to answer the question, I would say Iron Man, but I know you love Iron Man, so that would only feed your love of him, and I don't really want you to have the satisfaction. So instead I'll try to offend as equally as possible and say Vermin Supreme.

JThomasH2: uhm...uh...boy, the wheels are coming off early this time around...

MDCVH: That's why you need to let me speak my mind more often.

Speaking of politics, what do you think of adding yardsticks as standard debate paraphernalia?
    -anonymous

MDCVH: ...They already are in Latveria!

Oh Monumental MDCVH. Who would you want to be your great Countess; Ginger, Maryanne, or Lovey Howell?
    - hwetzel

MDCVH: This is something I think I will never understand. The answer is unequivocally Maryanne - why is there even a debate? Ginger is manipulative ALL THE TIME and Mrs. Howell is MRS. Howell. I see no scenario where either of those work out well. However, Maryanne seems like such an obvious choice that there is this weird almost reverse psychology that happens that causes people to talk themselves into either Ginger or Lovey. I just don't see it...

What do you think the meta will look like after World's Finest becomes tournament legal this week?
    - anonymous

MDCVH: I think everything changes but nothing does. I think you still win by getting your opponent to zero life the fastest, so direct damage and combat damage will continue to be the focus of most teams, but there will start to be some match-ups which just outpace others because of the nature of team design. Pilots will continue to be the difference, but as options increase for team elements, I believe we will find ourselves with some archetypes that are just stronger than others when matched up. I think Rare Bane, Rare Scarecrow, several versions of Mr. Mixespittlelick (that's the pronunciation I'm going with), and Oracle will all see play. I think Rare Bizarro is a legit win condition and the Kal-L global will get lots of play, just as the Ant-Man global did. I think common Batcave is a thing and the super rares are almost all highly playable.

With the new set out, I have a few questions about all the cool new villains. Does Two Face (UC) deal get to split his attack between blockers and opponent or does he deal damage equal to his attack value to both his blockers and the opponent?
    - Frank

MDCVH: He gets to deal damage to his opponent in addition to his blockers

That doesn't really answer my question.
    - Frank

MDCVH: Sure it does. An answer you don't like is not the same thing as not getting an answer.

Well, uh, hrmmm, ok. What about if both players have a rare Scarecrow, and one steals the other then it gets KO'd. Who gets to take control of an opposing character?
    - Frank

MDCVH: If you haven't won the game by the time this occurs, you're wasting time. However, if it does occur, the universe implodes - at least that is the Schrodinger's outcome until WKRF gives us an answer. Please avoid that.

Last one, but it's not about a villain. If I have a bunch of characters in the Batcave and it gets removed, where do they go
    - Frank

MDCVH: Most likely, the Batcave only acts as an interrupt and they go wherever they were going to begin with. It is possible we will be instructed otherwise, but I wouldn't make this any more complicated than that. Just like the Gelatinous Cube capture mechanic from BFF. An interrupt effect, that, when ended, allows the process to continue as usual.

Well things kind of turned around there at the end; thanks for that MDCVH. Any final thoughts?
    - JThomasH2

MDCVH: Whatever your political affiliation or questions about rules (or actresses born in 1900), go see all of the movies about super people that are due to come out in the next few months. Aliens, billionaires, would-be mer-folk, amazonian priestesses, spies, assassins, archers, androids, telepaths, shape shifters, blue fuzz-balls, and the rest. I'm sure there's something for everyone.

And there you have it - the MDCVH mailbag. Join us again in a couple weeks when MDCVH answers more questions. At least he will if anyone asks... Don't forget to submit yours to MasterDoctorCountVonHomash@gmail.com!

I sure hope the universe doesn't explode. Or implode.

Also, awesome clip at the end, still on the video clip is of course the best team #teamcap

Funny and useful, as always. I think that as some other people have said, Ultraman may be a win condition, too. I completely agree that overall this set has great, very usable Super rares, arguably the highest number in one release yet. (Argue among yourselves.) I really think, at least for me, the Black Lantern Green Arrow is is going to be an amazing game changer. I think you will see it in a lot of decks as the designated card to take the wind out the sails of the good ships "Retaliation" and "Green Goliath". The affiliation also takes the sting out of many of the punishments for using a true Villain deck, which should warm the cockles of the MDCVH heart. Thanks again for a great article.

What is what I do when I can
Last couple constructed events no one was ready for Half-Elf Bard: Apprentice Order of the Gauntlet or Master Lords' Alliance.

If folks have a way to enjoy and play the game with limited IPs, let them continue to rock it. I was anti-YGO/D&D simply because I didn't want to invest any more at the time. I've come around because of the depth they add to the game (particularly D&D). Some will eventually, some never will. And that should be OK with the rest of us.

      No, I pretty much agree.

Plus, both D&D sets are AMAZING and represent the game (IMO) at it's best.

Most of my favorite cards exist outside of the comic IPs. There are some really fun interactions you are missing if you are all DC or Marvel
