• Civil War Starter Video Review : Basic Actions

Here we go again! Another spoiler season kicks off with another video review! This time we're taking a look at the highly anticipated Civil War set. Once again we're breaking things down into multiple videos to make it a little easier to digest. For this video I'm taking a look at the Basic Actions from the set, and there's some pretty sweet ones to choose from.

As usual, I can't thank WizKids! enough for the opportunity to bring these videos to you.

Check back in a few days for the first of the character reviews, starting with Captain America and Falcon!

Unless the starting characters are amazing, I may be skipping out on the civil war starter. The BACs don't look like must haves. I never was a fan of gearing up because it only netted one additional die and it cost 4... this version is better but meh. Thank you for posting this. They NEEDED a cheap action die for one or two that could disrupt the rush but they didn't deliver on that at least IMHO.

There are several character cards in the starter that I'm pretty excited about. Captain America has a lot of potential, Scarlet Spider seems much improved over the ASM set, there's a Falcon and Wasp I like quite a bit and I'm very much in love with She-hulk... BUT you'll have to wait for those videos.

As for these BACs, and specifically Superhero Registration Act, I like that it does double duty as ramp and potential removal. In general I'd say there's some really good utility in a lot of these BACs, and they will have varying degrees of usefulness depending on your meta and your team.

Now for disrupting the rush, generally a Basic Action isn't going to help you there unless it has a global or is Continuous. Blink-Transmutation, Distraction, and Magic Missile all already do a decent job of slowing down a rush. Also "Long Live the Resistance" could give you a means of recovering from a rush after you stabilize.

Maybe its the optimist in me but looking at that global from "Long Live the Resistance",I think that BAC global is a way to shut down bard blitz and guy rush to an extent. It's a big stretch on the interpretation of all damage though lol but a guy could dream lol

Unless they errata it, it won't do anything since the actual "when attacks" ability doesn't affect you (the player). It only affects his other dice by giving them a stat boost.

It definitely works against Lantern Ring Teams, Cyclops If Looks Could Kill, and Breath Weapons.

itwont work with Cyclops as he deal ability damage to his opponents characters and not "to his opponent directly"
as the card does state "Prevent all damage to you"
not prevent all damage to your characters

The Front Line + Beholder + Villainous Pact = GG

Throw in Blue Dragon for some insurance and laugh your way to lethal.

Every set I look to see what BAC's can be best abused with Beholder and the results just get better and better. End of Days + Invulnerability was a cute way to clear almost your whole opponent's board, but since your characters didn't stay attacking, it left a bit to be desired. The Front Line, on the other hand, is the perfect support for Beholder since it turns all your sidekicks into 4 damage, squeaking under Mera and allowing a few dice to be perfect lethal.
