I feel like Zmags would have been very relevant. Elf thief, constantine, Dwarf wizard, Ronin, falcon, mera, and thanks to shadowmeld .... DAREDEVIL!

Too slow. By the time he comes out, they either have all they need to swing n kill ya or they can cancel zmags with spray or kryponite. Plus Oracle is usually there to crush Ur ramp.

so in this entire game, there's about 20 cards total in some random combination that makes for the most competitive deck. 20 Elf Thieves, 16 Constantines, 18 Oracles. 17 Prof X. WK needs to get on it or it'll only get worst. cut/copy/best roll masters. I'd like to see set rotation and maybe a draft championship too.

Draft might be a way to go. But not a draft where you pick packs and such, the draft would be 40 random cards or 50. Some set amount made just for this and given to every person when they come into the tournament. j

Build the best deck you can, you have to have the dice which might get sketchy but otherwise seems like a good thought to get the best players.

Yugioh did this a couple times on the big event level, where they made a pre-drafted big ol pile of cards, made sure there was a print-out of all the cards you had when you started, and you made your 40 min card deck out of those.

So maybe it could be applied here, just have a big set of stuff across all sets available, make a random pile of a bunch of cards (enough to counteract the loss of the pick and choose process of draft) and then each person builds their team from there.

Junior and I retooled the ring team the morning before world's and Zmags was on our list of adds. We chose to go with Venom because he worked better in the mirror math and against bard teams because sidekicks couldn't survive entry to the field.

We also chose to pull Prof X and missile because two days in the meta had shown us others would bring it for us. Instead we added resurrection and ramped ahead of opponents thieves rendering their energy stealing useless on turn three. I played all but one match on Saturday with twelve cards as a result.

With a purchase cost of 4, when do you have time to buy oracle? (with all the elf thieves, dwarf wizards, and bards, that need purchased).

Instead of Venom for that purpose, you could have added the card I had on my very unsuccessful day two Worlds qualifier team, Penguin - Bully. Keeps sidekicks off the field and weakens any non-villains for a Babs ping. It's a four cost and also a mask character. Underrated.

We looked at penguin but we discussed the one that hits the opponent when anyone is fielded. We talked about it as a way of getting additional damage in while bard fielded troops putting them well within one shot striking distance with the ring after a few turns pinging off support with babs. In the end we made the decision to go with venom because the bard can't win by himself and venom makes one ping of babs a board clear on almost all the characters on that team.

I see your reasoning. The only reason I thought that Penguin might be better is that the meta is so fast tempo-wise that the opportunity to get a six cost out in time to make a difference rarely seems to come along.

Facing bard teams is a tricky puzzle to solve.

My biggest question is, how did that Ultraman/Front Line deck work? That one really sticks out from all the others

Completely agree, the goal was a turn three landing of Constantine and Venom, if we got stuck with a sidekick we went Constantine oracle then looped back to venom as we knew we could get two turns out of that plant and get venom in to control the board state turn 5-6.

So with that team, the idea is to get ultra man out and constantly kryponite to imprison your opponents characters as well as front line for your unblocked characters to get a nice pump once you have enough characters on the board. Its kinda slow, but with oracle and elf thief and first turn advantage, you could set it up and get going well. Props to my friend russel for sticking to his guns with that team. He might not have top 8 but a lot of his games were really fun to watch just cause of how different his team was and how surprised people were at what his team would do.

The Ultraman Team is a beta capsule blast. Win or lose most of my games (with the exception a poor showing against Junior and a couple Vicious Struggle detours) were white knuckle, down to the wire chess matches. Really fun games against great pilots/people. Basic idea is to control, and hold off until you can get your Ultraman and Kryptonites to go off activating Imprisoned and The Front Line (an underrated card in my humble opinion) which usually let me get the win. A lot of moving pieces but a lot of fun to play.
