WizKids has just announced a New Player Initiative called the "Sidekick League". You can read all about it here: http://win.wizkids.com/wp/sidekicknight/

What are your thoughts on this? Do you do something like this already? Did your store get selected? Let us know what you think!

      Why is it exclusive?

This isn't a premium event, it's a membership drive. Exclusivity makes no sense for that. You need to get people out to the place that they will play. You would think this would be super useful to try to help people in fledgling scenes who are trying hard to make it work. Except that's not what they did.

Right idea but I do question the implementation.

WizKids told me to have the owner contact our store's Alliance rep but I don't understand why the distributor has a say. Nor do I understand why it is selective in the first place when the target is growth. In any case it IS a good idea. If your store wasn't selected have your owner talk to their Alliance rep.

Amazing! I have had to learn so much about the game by myself, but have had some help along the way. Would have been nice a few months ago when I started... Is it going to be 2 v 2? What do they mean by "alongside" veteran players? Hopefully gets more people into our local scene.

Oh look an exclusive event I can't use to help my dead scene! Instead if I want to participate I have to bring someone to an already thriving scene and depending on what stores can participate it'll either be a 2 or 3 hour drive.

True, but I can understand from a business standpoint why they are implementing it the way they are. Sounds like these stores are getting resources for implementation. They want to make a return on their cost, which means thriving scenes that lead to more sales of their products down the road. It's bringing more people in, while still keeping it cost-effective.

See my response above... has to be about making money too. It does cost Wiz Kids to advertise and get more people in. If I was in their shoes from a business standpoint, I would focus on large markets too.

Fair, but I can tell you of very active stores that were passed over and relatively inactive stores that were selected.

Except because there is nothing to do with smaller markets, and it isn't worth a 2 to 3 hour drive for a casual event (+2 to 3 back so 4 to 6 hours of driving) it means the markets in between the larger scenes have no reason to maintain interest in the game and I'm not sure they can afford to lose all the smaller markets.

Fair point. The most active location to me is 70 miles away and I have not tried to make the drive yet haha!

How do you find which stores are running it?

If you're a volunteer on WIN you can see if the template is available or not.

I've just checked our store. We appear to have an Attack Wing Sidekick event template but no Dice Masters.

We play no STAW at all! LOL

I'm hoping that it's just an admin error. The dude down my FLGS is going to follow up...
