So we are all familiar with the sketch cards/blank art variants that Wizkids has been providing recently. I've tried to get several of these, because I go to Emerald City Comic-Con every year, and there are lots of amateur and professional artists there that do amazing work, including several that draw the actual comics these characters appear in.
So for this post I wanted to share some of the cards I had done this past year, and show why I, at least, enjoy the fact that Wizkids offers these cards.
Travis Hanson. Super nice guy - he spent the whole con just doing free sketches for anyone who stopped by his booth. Bought a couple books of his, will definitely be going back to see him again next year.
Randy Emberlin. Spider-Man artist. Amazing work, got an Iron Fist sketch card from him last year.
Crystal Sully. "Maker of Monsters" - she's done lots of work for Pathfinder and other stuff. Funny story - this was her first year having a booth at a con like this, and this card was her first ever "commissioned sketch." I think she knocked it out of the park.
David Mack. One of my wife's (and my) favorite artists. His work is amazingly beautiful. And he's a super nice guy as well.
Daniel Govar. Didn't know anything about him, saw a cool looking dragon at his booth. Ended up being one of my favorite sketches, this is absolutely gorgeous.
Rob Liefeld. Creator of Deadpool. I didn't have the time or money to get an actual sketch, but as this is Deadpool it's kinda meta anyways so it fits. And maybe it's not such a bad thing, anyways (NSFW-language warning).
Jim Cheung. You've seen his work before, he's done a TON of great work, largely for Marvel. I wish I'd thought to bring the two-part Teamwork/Rally OP BACs for him to sign. Oh well.
Ron Randall. DC artist. Did a good job. Not much more to say.
