• True Horrors Never Die

It all started back at the beginning. Gary Gygax had a problem; his players were too powerful and smug about their power levels. What's more, other Dungeons and Dragons players were even more smug and claimed to be even more powerful. With that he decided he would address the issue head on with what would come to be called the "Worst, Best Adventure" in D&D history.

Planning and preparing for the very first Origins Game Fair, Gygax created an adventure titled, "The Tomb of Horrors," and labeled it S-01. The S stood for "Special." As the community would develop, special scenarios would be come to be known as tests of mettle - challenges of skill and overall adventures that only the best could complete. Tomb of Horrors was more than that. It has racked up more character deaths than any other module in the history of D&D and has caused more players to rage at their DM than any other. At the heart of this dungeon lies the Arch-Lich Acererak.

"But Shadowmeld, that was 40 years ago, why do I even care!?!"

Dungeons and Dragons 3: Tomb of Annihilation

Acererak is back, baby, and he moved to Faerun. The newest plot line in the D&D franchise spans the Neverwinter game series, the Wizards of the Coast adventure supplements and even our next Dice Masters D&D set. Today WotC announced the Tomb of Annihilation series, and we were happily graced with the following image:

Details we can pick up from the image include confirmation that Acererak will be in the set, more dragons, more fabricating golems and a new subtype of actions, Traps! Additionally we see dice molds that seem similar to zombies and flesh golems and get a rendered projection of what Draft Packs will look like. It has yet to be confirmed if Tomb of Annihilation will be draft packs only, but that is a rumor we hope to pin down at Origins this year.

I'm looking forward to this set, if you couldn't tell, and I'm going to call it right now, Sphere of Annihilation will be a 1 die SR, and it will be AMAZING!

Yes, we're pretty certain that this set will have the same numbers as Thor, which confirmed that. In fact, we are assuming 4o characters with 3 rarity levels, 12 BACs and 4 single rarity characters (super rares) we just aren't sure how get 2 dice of those SRs will work out.

No clue what an Acererax is but that art is sweet.

He is the Arch-Lich at the heart of both the Tomb of Horrors and the Tomb of Annihilation. Creation of Gary Gygax himself.

Tried sharpening the image but it's still hard to make anything out but here is what I've got. Acererak's text from what I can tell is a keyword I can't read, the paragraph text is "Acereak costs [1 or 2] less to purchase for each [Commander? Emmaritus? Starts with C, or E], Undead, Trap (?) or [something that is 2 short words] die to a minimum of [1 or 2]." The bottom text is reminder text for the top keyword and the keyword's reminder text says that he doesn't need to be active to use his ability (not sure on exact wording of the reminder text but that's the gist of it).

Wizkids keeps surprising me! They aren't giving up on this game after all. Looking forward to this year.

Will it be the same cards in the draft pack as in the gravity feeds (except BACs)?

It appears so, for Thor. For this set, we haven't even gotten confirmation that we will be getting anything but draft packs.

It might happen that we get X-Men and DND back to back, one in gravity feeds the other in draft packs, as a lead up to Thor where we will be getting them both for the same set.
