• WizKids Fan Appreciation Event

We went to the Fan Appreciation Presentation during Origins and got a quick scoop!

    Current release schedule (planned):

Superman/Wonder Woman Starter (nothing new, check out Trubie's video on our YouTube Channel):

    Guardians of the Galaxy:

    Card spoilers!

The new Infiltrate keyword will allow an unblocked character to instead return to the field and deal the opponent 1 damage, as opposed to the die's full attack.

You may remember an article Randy wrote a while back. Well, Jimmy confirmed that last year's US National Champion JT was a member of #ChooseRicochet.

I don't remember specifically, but I *think* they said this card was another winner selection:

The new Shriek in the Maximum Carnage team pack will be a "Prismatic Spray on legs."

    Tomb of Annihilation!

Draft packs will have foils similar to the current rarity distribution, including foil BACs.

The draft pack-based sets will have 12 BACs, 40 different characters/Actions, and 4 "max 1" super rare characters. The draft packs will include two dice for the "max 1" characters - both dice can be used with the single card in draft, but only one die can be used in constructed. (Apparently the rules for Draft have always allowed more than the "Max" dice listed if you can draft enough.)

Sets like Thor, which will come in both feeds and draft packs, will have the same cards minus the BACs in both distribution models. The "max 1" cards will only come with one die in the feeds.

    And now, ToA spoilers!

(Trubie's reaction upon seeing the Kobold Trap card above

There should be more DC sets next year, assuming everything goes according to plan. For now, just the OP kits we already knew about:

The CMON announcement covers WizKids' statements on Eric Lang. No changes are expected in 2018 from the plan before Eric joined CMON. Eric and Mike are still very close and have an "arrangement" for Dice Masters. Eric has laid a solid thematic foundation for DM, and Mike will be able to continue focusing on the mechanics.

The format of the next season of WKOs will depend on the way the Gencon events go.

New IPs are in the works for Dice Masters - maybe more than one. WizKids said they are hoping to get the permits for Marvel vs Capcom, but the negotiations are complicated and still very much in preliminary stages.

Justin Ziran, the president of WizKids, came up and answered a lot of our questions, which we really appreciated. He mentioned that WK is always reading and listening, even if they can't always respond due to being in the middle of negotiations. He said the number one thing that we can do for the game as players is to continue to evangelize and bring new players in, to combat the natural attrition of collectible games.

Justin said WK is aware of the distributions in non-US locales, and they are always working on it. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find good distributors that are easy to work with, that are also big enough to have enough free capital.

WK is planning to continue offering Dice Masters WKOs separately from Heroclix -- they found it to be fairly successful. Justin said that they're revising the WIN system and that reliably entering your events in WIN and purchasing product is the best way to get them to notice your stores to host a WKO.

On release dates, they are just estimates until WK places an exact date on the solicits page. They place the exact date when they have the goods in control.

Licenses, approvals, and art were cited as reasons for delays this year.

Justin reassured us that everything is strong in terms of sales for Dice Masters. He mentioned we just need to regain the momentum the game had earlier.

WizKids is looking into having events at other conventions -- Gencon is definitely happening this year, and they are looking into others.

For the Yu-Gi-Oh! fans, WK no longer has a current license with Konami. They are talking about renewing it, but have nothing for now. The dice numbers were mandated by Konami so that the dice had to be traded with the cards in fan and secondary markets.

'The new Infiltrate keyword will allow an unblocked character to instead return to the field and deal the opponent 1 damage, as opposed to the die's full attack'. Is that how it will work?

When I read it ('When this character die is unblocked, you may return this die to the Field Zone and it deals your opponent one damage'), I thought it would be returned from the Used Pile to the Field Zone, after dealing it's combat damage, and deal an additional 1 direct damage. Reasoning: the Attack Zone is part of the Field Zone, so you can't return to the Field Zone without going somewhere else first.

This would be the difference between a very powerful ability (giving unblockables the advantage that overcrushers have of effectively remaining in the field to attack again next turn) and an extremely meh ability.

Some really interesting information there. Thanks for sharing!

Did they confirm how many C/UC/R/SR we can expect in a draft pack?

While I am very excited for these draft packs coming up, i'm still fairly bummed about only one DC set this year. Yes we have the Wonder Woman/Superman Starter, but Guardians, X-Men, Thor, Iron Man Starter plus Team Packs, ugh. Glad to hear that there should be more DC next year at least, although MVC would also be pretty fantastic, I'd be all over that.

I guess MVC makes sense, as they can mix in some Marvel with a (hopefully mostly) Capcom core. I'd like to see a slightly more skewed Capcom roster rather than have yet another Cap, Spidey, Iron Man core.

Re: Infiltrate - the benefit can be for characters with "While Active abilities that you want to keep in the Field. You can now attack with them and still do (some) damage while maintaining their abilities and having blockers.

Re: rarity distribution in draft packs - we asked but they couldn't comment officially beyond "it should be about the same cost to collect a full set".

Lots could be done with Mega Man.

I think just one team pack for D.C. would go a long way to satisfying D.C. fans. Question is, what should it be? Supes, Bats, Justice League and the Lanterns are pretty well covered. Young Justice?

So I could probably write an entire article just about Kobold Trap but to be short, it confirms there's more swarm in D&D 3 (unless there was a colossal mess up), and it makes those mediocre 3 cost swarm characters (something like the poor old Orc) more desirable to still use even if you only get 2 dice in the draft.
It's usefulness outside of d&d though is questionable but likely decent since DWiz is still prevalent.

Pure fanboy gushing here, but how about a JLI pack? Something like...

      Booster Gold
      Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
      Guy Gardner
      Fire
      Ice
      Batman
      Martian Manhunter
      Maxwell Lord

I think Licensing must be an issue with DC. It would explain why we have very few DC sets and zero team packs. I agree that DC should have team packs. There are so many options. They could do any of the following:

      - The Rogues
      - Justice League Dark (Swamp Thing, Zatanna, and Constantine dice reprints and they could all be Mystical)
      - JSA
      - Kingdom Come
      - Teen Titans (the ones we haven't seen)
      - Green Lantern Corps (the ones we haven't seen)
      - Wonder Woman and the Amazons (with their own affiliation)

I really want a Justice League Dark team pack.

Young Justice, or i'm pretty sure JSA or Legion of Superheroes would also be solid picks. Maybe an Elseworlds or Injustice one?

Oh my lord. Can the Guy Gardner card have Batman punching him out??
