• WizKids Wednesday: Maximum Carnage Teampack

I'd been holding off on my Maximum Carnage Teampack coverage till we got a little closer to release, and we're finally just one week away from this beauty hitting shelves. Hitting one of the most loved comic story lines of the 90s, and featuring Mark Bagley's art from the event, this set is sure to tap into nostalgia and love of the comics for some, but more importantly features some hard hitting, soon to be meta staples that can't be ignored.

If you're reading this, you've likely already seen the spoilers, but now's a good time to take another look at this set and remind yourself just how awesome it is. I, once again, take this team pack and attempt to team build from it, and while we don't quite have the synergy we saw in Defenders, there's still a lot of solid stuff to build with here.

What's your favorite card from the set? Obviously Shriek is a big deal, but what do you think is the #2 most important card? What would you have done differently in the build? Let me know!

I like tribal synergy / theme teams, and I feel the Defenders team pack gives you a viable beginner team right out of the gate. Yes, the purchase costs are problematic, but the Luke Cage that gives the Defenders discount (plus prep a die when you field a Defender) can pretty easily be purchased turn 2. You replace Loki with Rip Hunter's Chalkboard and you're basically good to go. Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Shadowcat are all totally meta viable and the expensive characters may not always be practical, but are pretty easy to get to after the team gets going with Luke Cage out, and Defenders being fielded.

The issue is for a team pack you shouldn't need another card to be able to play it, much like a starter, it should have tons of synergy to be played with right out of the box. I wish Wizkids could understand that. Maximum Carnage is by far the best example of a team pack. It has good synergy for what it's worth, and all cards are playable in one way or another. The Defenders team pack is another story. Most of the cards are expensive and have no real benefit other than being together on the same team. Clea, Hulk, and Dr. Strange are great examples of how their abilities don't match the cost. 6-7 cost cards should be well worth that.

Card for card I think this is the best team pack yet. Thank you so much for this review, as well as all of your other reviews.
