• Age of Ultron Predictions: 6 Months Later

So, six months ago when Age of Ultron was announced (good gravy, was it that long ago!?), former-contributor Katie and I took a look at 11 characters that made an impact in the Age of Ultron comic book series that we thought were potential candidates for this series of Dice Masters. Unfortunately for our predictions, the Age of Ultron Dice Masters set seems more closely based off of the most recent Avengers movie and current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe than it is on the comic book series of the same name. We assumed that since Avengers vs X-Men was loosely based on a comic series, the same would go for Age of Ultron. We guessed wrong. Let's take a look back at the characters we highlighted, and whether or not we were right with some of our guesses. At this point, we had already known that Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Daredevil, and Kang would all appear in the set. Let's see how we did. (Our guesses on liklihood were based on a scale of 1-10)

    Character: Ant-Man
    Randy's Liklihood: 8
    Katie's Liklihood: 9
In Age of Ultron: NO YES

Ok, this one is a technicality. "Ant-Man" is not in the set, but Giant-Man is. In talking about Ant-Man in our predictions, we were very clear we were talking about Hank Pym. I even made the comment that I didn't think we'd see Ant-Man, but possibly a different masked persona of Hank Pym. I'd say we nailed this one.

    Characters: Wolverine and Invsible Woman
    Randy's Liklihood: 9 and 9
    Katie's Liklihood: 10 and 9
In Age of Ultron: NO and NO

I'm combining these two in this section. Both guesses were made with the assumption that this set would take heavy influences from the comic series. Not to detract too much from this article, it doesn't go without notice that both of these characters, possibly the two most influential characters in the comic series (aside from Ultron himself) are characters that do not exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's been said many times that it looks like Marvel is freezing some of those characters, as to make them less marketable and not give "free advertising" to FOX. Right, back to the predictions...

    Character: Hawkeye
    Randy's Liklihood: 9
    Katie's Liklihood: 7
    In Age of Ultron: YES

I mentioned in my prediction that I thought his overall popularity was on the rise, so he would make the cut and be included. I actually said, "As far as game mechanics go, I think there's a variety of ways to showcase his trick shots, and shooting multiple arrows at once, and his resourcefulness". Isn't one of his new cards subtitled "Trick Shot"? #nailedit

    Character: Spider-Man
    Randy's Liklihood: 7
    Katie's Liklihood: 8
    In Age of Ultron: NO

I know both Katie and I ranked him high, but that's because we thought his overall popularity would trump his involvement in the event. I said, "Are we really going to have Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, and Iron Man in EVERY set? I don't think so. And this is the time to skip Spidey. I am just not confident that Wizkids would agree with me." Well, what do you know... it seems Wizkids DID agree with me.

Character: Hammerhead, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Moon Knight
    Randy's Liklihood: 3, 7, 6, 2
    Katie's Liklihood: 3, 6, 5, 2
    In Age of Ultron: NOPE

Yea... None of these characters made it. But they all have something in common: they are considered street level. I'll sum this up quickly. We need some more strret level characters, and it looks like we will be getting them in the Amazing Spider-Man set later this year. Hopefully some of these characters make it in.

    Character: Angela
    Randy's Liklihood: 2
    Katie's Liklihood: 2
    In Age of Ultron: NO

Again, based on the comic event. She was with the Guardians of the Galaxy for a short time. And if we ever get an Asgard centered set, I would almost expect her to be in it. We knew she wasn't a heavy favorite... it just made for some good conversation at the time.

    Character: Wasp
    Randy's Liklihood: 4
    Katie's Liklihood: 8
    In Age of Ultron: YES

So... maybe I wasn't exactly right. Wasp is, in fact, in this set. And one of her cards looks like it might have a big impact on the competitive meta. Kudos to Katie, she saw this one coming.

This was actually fun. Looking back to see how my guesses were months ago. Maybe I should do one for Amazing Spider-Man... hmmm....

    Until next time, roll on.

I enjoyed this retrospective and sincerely endorse a similar article for the Amazing Spider-Man set. If you are so inclined, maybe the community can create the character suggestions for you.

My character would be Iron Spider.

He was on my list oc characters to highlight, but he didn't make the final cut. Maybe I need to put him back on

      1. I remember reading that article when it was original. Nice follow up. It is fun to speculate.

      2. I kinda miss hearing from Katie. I was a little disappointed she didn't make a cameo on episode 50.

      3. I think at this point, we should expect Dice Masters to be primarily driven by movies and TV shows. They have to sell product so they've got to have mostly recognizable characters, but I'd really like to see more variety of characters since the source material is so rich.

I think we need a War of Light and Amazing Spider-Man prediction article/show.
