• New Trading System on TRP

We all know that trading is part of collectible games. So logically, after we opened the new site, one of the first questions we received is, "When are you going to add a trading section?" The answer to that question is, "today!"

We puzzled over how to best support trading here at TRP. An easy way is to simply open up a new forum and let members just use it however. That's simple to do, but the least helpful. The nicest option would be to write custom trading software. That would be awesome, but time-consuming, greatly delaying deployment. What we landed on is somewhere in-between.

Yes, there is a new trading forum called, Sales and Trades. If you go there and read the read the rules in the stickied thread, you'll discover that it is now the only forum on the site we allow trade talk to take place. However, we expect this forum to be fairly quiet because the best place to list your items for trade and find others' items is in our trade list database.

    Using the Trade List Database

The quickest way to get to the trade list database is by going to the Sales and Trades forum and clicking on the link at the top (above the list of threads). When you do that, you will see a screen similar to the screenshot shown to the left. Using the database is fairly simple. You'll notice there is a button at the top (labeled "1" in the screenshot). Press that button and fill out the form to add an item to your list of HAVES or WANTS.

Below that button is all items that members have listed in the database. Those items are what is listed in columns 2-7 in the screenshot. You can sort the list by any column by clicking on the column title. You can also filter and see only certain items in the list by selecting an item from the drop down menu above a column title and then hitting the corresponding ">" button next to it.

If a particular row is an item that you added to the database, in the last column (column 7), you will see links that allow you to edit or delete that entry.

    Providing Feedback on Trades

When trading, it is helpful to know if you're dealing with a trustworthy individual. To assist with establishing and researching the trustworthiness of members, we have setup a feedback system that works similarly to eBay's system. That is, after each trade, both parties are encouraged to leave feedback about how well the other party handled their side of the trade. This feedback is then displayed to the rest of the community.

To see feedback left about a member, go to his or her profile page and select the "Feedback Score" tab. You will see a summary of the positive and negative feedback left for a member. You will also see a link leading to more details about that feedback. The "Submit Feedback" link on this page is the place to go when you want to leave feedback following a trade with a user. (Tip: One quick way to get to a member's profile page is by clicking on the member name (column "2" above) in the trade list database).

    Whaddya Think?

That is version 1 of our trade system. We will improve it and it's interface over time. Please let us know what you think and about it, both good and bad.

Mega Contest Hint #1: Want more chances to win the contest? Well, 1) listing items in the trade database, 2) providing feedback about your trades with other members, and 3) maintaining a positive trade feedback score all provide you with extra chances.

Mega Contest Hint #2: You can hide text by making it white. Where have we seen that before? Hmmm...

That picture makes me laugh every time. "Ken's Tip-o-the-Day! Updated weekly!" Brilliant.

Thanks for working so hard to get this going for us!

      Awesome! +DC cards please.

Is there a way to delete a listing you put up? When I tried one of mine I get:

DigitalFirefly, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

You don't live and breathe in a cube surrounded by 900 screens and 2000 cores?

Seriously, this is awesome. And it only cost twice what it should have!

      This looks nice, thank you.
I think the most useful addition would be the ability to search for trades based on your have/want list. I'm thinking along the lines of the BoardGameGeek Trade Manager.

It would be great if there was a faster way than a new page for every single dupe I have :-/

      Couple of ideas:

      1. Possibly get geographical location in there somewhere? As someone based in the UK, I would likely prefer to deal with someone else in the UK to save on postage.
I see our profiles have a location option, so perhaps that could be used.

      2. As SlapsterMcFlash indicated - a way to import a load of wants/haves at once. If a syntax could be agreed, I would like to add an export option in the DMDB Collection Manager that could be used for something like this.

Doubt that he was referencing that one. It's probably a reference to something he's got his John Hancock on. It's most definitely not a reference to anything else though. Trust me I aint lion.

Being able to sort the trade database by Dice Masters set and card rarity would be a nice feature.

@DigitalFirefly and @SlapsterMcFlash : The "no permission to delete" bug is fixed. Thanks for the reports.

Also, @SlapsterMcFlash --good idea on adding the dice. That will happen tonight when when I add the Justice League sets.

@Loran --yeah, geographic location is now on the list for additions. Yes, a bulk import should also be doable. Email or PM me when you've got time and we'll work on the format together so we can interoperate. You have my addy.

Nope, something definitely more directly related to the contest (a LOT more directly). If you find it, feel free to share.
