• The Prep Area Podcast 11: Destruction vs. Fear

Welcome to Episode Eleven of The Prep Area! Hosts RJ (RJRETRO) and Patrick (Shadowmeld) are back with another evil episode -- this one focusing on two team based around two MONSTERS. Makes sense that we call this Destruction vs. Fear, hm?

"Destruction" is based around the uncommon Tarrasque from the D&D set. Maybe you expected the common or maybe you expected the Super Rare. Nope.

The main event team is "Fear", based around the common Parallax from the brand-new War of Light set coming out this week!

Shadowmeld will also take you into his laboratory to show you another evil combo, and IsaacBV returns to continue his "The Transition Zone" segment to help you become more of a competitive player.

The streak of amazing art continues! As always. it was supplied by the official artist of The Prep Area, Nick Sutphin! Follow him on Twitter at @Sutphin51, or check out his Facebook here, or his Deviantart here!

Thanks for taking me up on my Tarrasque team, Shadowmeld! This was worth the wait.

Is fairly fast. Faster than I anticipated. You keep the pressure on relatively easily. It won't win on turn 3, but it's fun to play and it might win turn 5 or 6.

      @Shadowmeld ,

Here is a request for you...

In Magic the Gathering, they produce what they call clash packs where they design two decks to play against each other. I know you did something like that awhile back - they were called Team Black and Team Blue.

Also, How about making a killer deck with the Trinity War OP BACs.

What about the unblockable Namor in place of War Machine? Requires 2 characters out, but could free up a slot in not requiring Iron Man. Plus it could be any 2 characters (not dependent on one guy being out).

I debated him a bit in my team build, in the end I decided that he wasn't quite perfech as pinging a SK could deny me unblockable. Also, characters with defense higher than their attack go well on Mystic box teams.

I had just built a deck that uses the uncommon tarrasque too...glad to see it used...i also put it in a deck that used gamora's global as basically a huge deterrent to attack...works good when using a weenie deck though it is a pain to devote that much energy just in case they decide to attack...and yes i could use mr fantastic or phoenix but that would make me save 3 energy...as for transfer power/mystic box, those 2 basic actions are my favorite, especially as removal...was mulling around wanting to use umber hulk but never pulled the trigger to put hi in a deck, until seeing him in action now...really nice decks there

The economy team looks very cool and I just built it to try out with friends. However, I disagree with calling it a Tarrasque team when you only brought him in for the global. It's the same way most wouldn't call a team a Blue Eyes team when you're only using the global. This is more a Maria Hill team (a very cool character/ability to build around).

I would love to see a team built around the Tarrasque regeneration shenanigans.

I finally pull BEWD and you make two teams that don't need it...
      So evil.
I'm thinking about making the Fear team with the Red eyes B. Dragon from the starter, costs 6 but all bolt characters cost 2 less to buy. Not sure if that will work but it would be a number one priority for your opponent.

I have to agree here. I'm not saying you didn't make an awesome team, it's super solid, but to be fair it's kind of a cop out to claim the center piece of the build is just the global. As someone who loved the Tarrasque from DnD 3.5 (not sure what changes it went through in 4th and 5th), and pulled it has one of my SRs instead of Red Dragon or Stirge, I was eagerly waiting for a team build that would incorporate buying and fielding the behemoth to some success. Still, great to see the new vids and podcasts still coming regardless!

I see your point, and while I agree, I am stuck with what I've got. I could build a team around either of the other Tarrasques, but in the end they would AT BEST come down to a single reroll. In this team, the Tarrasque is getting used successfully infinitely more often, even if it's just his global. I have, and probably will continue to make teams that hinge around abilities that are effectively 5050 coin tosses, but I usually try to make then not revolve around 7-8 cost 50/50 coin tosses, so that when you miss, you can recover, and try again. If I was to make that sort of team with a Tarrasque, you would effectively be able to Roll your Tarrasque before the game started, and call that the game decider.

I also mentioned in the episode the time you would want to go out of your way to pick up that 8 cost behemoth; Adventurer teams, or a pesky Paladin that you just can't get past.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying, I was just hoping in vain that there was some way to make Terrasque as awesome as he should be, and if anyone could find a way you'd would certainly be one of them. I guess the overall card design didn't work out though in practice.
