• Reading the Rainbow War of Light Draft Episode 3 Archetypes



    Welcome back folks! Last time we talked about the myriad of economy tools we could draft from the War of Light set. Today we're going to extend that discussion to the dice we want to buy, most specifically, the archetypes with in set. War of Light is full of archetypes, and by far the hardest part is recognizing the key archetypes as they are passed to you.


    Let's pick up where we left off last week, talking about energy Archetypes. Shields are a great source of synergy, with Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor and Wonder Girl providing some slid draft choices. However, it is the common Wonder Woman and Uncommon Super Girl that really bring a solid winning strategy of unblockable buffed sidekicks.


    Other Energy types are a bit more diversified, but a few cards can make the archetype happen with any other matching energy symbols. Raven can give us some great board wide protection, while Parallax can give a HUGE amount of dice repeatedly. Lastly, Fatality gives us a solid win condition for burning our opponent down, but buying more molt characters makes her viable.


    Next, let's look at the myriad of iterations we can build a team around the Lantern Corps. The simplest is to grab an associated Lantern Ring, and grab a ton of characters that match. Green and Blue make for a powerful rush of low to medium cost characters. Meanwhile, Yellow an Red Lanterns provide us with the same cheap weenies, and a squad of solid control characters we can use to harass our opponents. Lastly, Indigo Tribe has an interesting synergy between Indigo-1, Munk and any of the three Atoms.


    There are a few factions, that we probably shouldn't try to build a team around. Orange lanterns, Villains and Sapphire Corps have almost no internal synergy, and Sapphires even favor a diversity of Lantern colors. A good Sapphire character draft includes hate drafting all of the best cards of other lantern corps.


    The last big option for drafting is the Teen Titans. These guys have VERY solid synergy across their commons an uncommons. Cheap Beast Boy, with a fist in reserve is amazingly powerful. Raven gives all Titan's Regeneration. Wonder Girl provides protection from targeted effects for the team. Lastly, Starfire gives us the direct damage we need to round out the team and push for the win.

    Multiple archetypes a myriad of ways to win, and the only thing holding one team back from the victory is the skill of the pilot and his drafting skills. Good luck in your WoL drafts, and tune in next week for the first player of our 6 man pod of War of Light!

      In my last rainbow draft, Teen Titans crushed everyone else. No competition.

      Add uncommon Warth to Teen Titans.

      I have yet to see a loss when going this route in draft.

      I tried to draft TT but never saw a Starfire. The person I lost to in the last round had 2 of them :-P
