• Amazing Spider Man Spoilers: The Return!

With each trickle of information that comes out, something new and exciting bubbles to the surface, and each revealed card makes the Amazing Spider-man even more hotly anticipated. Now, only a few days remain until this set swings its way into our hearts, and what better way to make the next few days more agonizingly slow than to whet your appetite with even more card spoilers!?

Luke Cage – Hero for Hire
The veritable “Hero for Hire”, Luke Cage appears to be in the employ of our friendly neighborhood Spider-man, acting like a bodyguard for Mr. Parker. Luke Cage’s ability would definitely be useful for strategies that need to keep Spider-man in the field, and his stats are fairly beefy, but his purchase cost coupled with his somewhat niche ability make the common Luke Cage adequate but not exciting.
    Cloak - Darkforce Dimension
Cloak – Darkforce Dimension gives us another glimpse of the synergy we expected to see from Cloak & Dagger, and it’s a doozy. Giving you a two-for-one on all of your character abilities and action dice could be pretty huge. Granted neither Cloak or Dagger’s attack stats will make something like Stealth Ops appealing here, but this seem pretty ripe for some fun and weird combos. Even if they both attack at level 1, giving both characters Anger Issues could be pretty overwhelming, especially if you swap Cloak’s attack and defense with Ant-Man’s Global. Also, be sure to notice this is a “may” ability, so if your opponent targets Cloak, you do not have to target Dagger as well.
    Firestar - Amazing Friend
The obvious first comparison Firestar – Amazing Friend is going to draw is to Nova – Human Rocket. Acting as a “Nova-lite” Firestar only deals 1 damage when she takes damage, however this can be targeted towards a player or a character and does not carry the caveat of needing to be during the attack step. Her stats are not as good as Nova’s, but she does carry the Spider-man affiliation which carries its own perks. In most cases, Nova may still be the preferred card, but Firestar is a pretty versatile alternative. Regardless of your preference, seeing both an Iceman and Firestar with the subtitle “Amazing Friend” is sure to make anyone who grew up watching the cartoon in the 80's giddy.
    Lizard - Scientist
The biggest drawback to the Lizard cards that had already been spoiled was the “glass cannon” aspects of his stats, and the punishingly wasteful level 1 face. Lizard – Scientist does manage to address the “glass cannon” stats giving Lizard more staying power, but the ability is likely most useful during your opponent’s turn when they have priority. Once again looking at Ant-Man’s global, it could be interesting to switch Lizard’s stats, trigger some form of removal a few times and flip his stats back, but Vulture – Adrian Toomes gets twice as strong when a character leaves the Field Zone and doesn’t require the Ant-Man flip. In general, it seems that Lizard’s uncommon would be the most useful of his rarities in limited play.
    Scarlet Spider - Webslinger
One of several “Mini-Prismatic Spray” cards in this set, Scarlet Spider seems like a really solid general utility card with an acceptable stat-line and good ability slightly held back by the Underdog tag-word. With a purchase cost one higher than his uncommon version, the extra energy gets you the “If that character would be KO’d this turn, it goes to the Used Pile.” That one energy can make a pretty large difference when in the heat of battle, but sending a troublesome character to Used rather than just the Prep could be a game changer.
    Wolverine - Weapon Plus
WizKids certainly is knocking the ball out of the park when it comes to thematic cards with this set. Reading this Wolverine, one can’t help but immediately envision Wolvie diving in front of a lethal attack, saving his X-men teammates from destruction at the expense of his own body. Unfortunately Wolverine’s purchase cost may be a bit of a hurdle to jump, but his ability to potentially save your field full of X-men from certain destruction may be worth that cost.
    Green Goblin - Rotting Goblin
Zombie Green Goblin brings us the least expensive purchase cost of any of the Zombies we’ve seen so far and potentially one of the more immediately useful Zombie abilities. Acting somewhat similarly to the infamous “Gobby” from Avengers Vs. X-men, the Rotting Goblin damages your opponent based on their fielded sidekicks rather than your own. This make for a nice response to players who like to build up side-kick walls and can pair nicely with the White Tiger global that makes both players field sidekicks from their used pile. Like all the other Zombies so far, you are still limited to one die which definitely prevents this card from being the force that “Gobby” is, but it’s still an awfully nice card and one of the better Zombies we’ve seen.

Amazing Spider-Man is looking like an incredibly fun set with some of the most vivid thematic flavor we’ve seen in a set thus far. From previous spoilers we’ve seen there are definitely going to be some difficult new challenges to face down, but thankfully WizKids is also giving us creative and varied tools to help players meet these challenges head-on.

Green Goblin zombie mentions like other cards "Opponents" so we can see a development to 2 on 2s or even Free For ALl Brawls!

I'm really disappointed in Lizard... Every time I see a character with 1/2/3 fielding cost, I do a mental check to see how they stack up against Vibe and this Lizard seems like a straight downgrade. Abysmal defenses and worse attack values mean that unless you're running some HEAVY board wipe, Lizard just isn't going to be worth running out of set.

I really want the glass cannon idea to work out, but that's going to require much cheaper fielding costs or reasonable compensation for the 6-TFC like a 5/7/8 attack spread. Until they make a character like that, Drax - Pained + Ant Man's global is the best we have for a super fast beatstick.

Yes we had about 6 Lizards and the Uncommon i believe lets you say , that target character can not block but only if a die leaves the field. I was thinking cool idea but the fielding costs where to high for it.

Personally I don't see green goblin that great. If you white tiger setting up for this it gives the opponent way to much to be able to use for bewd. If goblin was what they previewed it as being damage from the amount of sidekicks on both sides it would have been great.

I think you're focusing too much on what Zombie Green Goblin does and not enough on what you can do with him. Not only does he fit in as a nice 3-cost character, but he also punishes your opponent for having sidekicks on the field. Most of all, he's a low-cost burn option for shields which have been severely lacking. Specifically, he fits as the perfect complement to Jinzo in that they form a nasty pincer attack. If your opponent is using PXG to ramp, Jinzo is going to be a heavy life tax; if they're fielding their sidekicks to avoid clogging their bag, Zombie Gobby is going to deal significant damage; and if they don't field or PXG their sidekicks, they're going to be playing with a miniscule economy and horrible churn.

Zombie Gobby brings burn to an energy type that was severely lacking a real way to deal damage and fits beautifully into an existing setup to punish your opponent no matter what happens. He's not as disgustingly OP as regular Gobby, but he's definitely good and I think this is a very reasonable power level for Gobby's more moderate incarnation.

Can I just give a big +1 to @Necromanticer here? Absolutely perfect explanation of why Rotting Goblin will definitely warrant play.

While it's a very poor combo in terms of consistency and even power, can I just say that White Tiger + Green Goblin: Rotting Goblin + Red Skull: Undying Evil sounds hilarious?

Zombie - When fielded, KO all non-zombie Red Skull in the field.
While active, opponent can't attack with more than 1 Sidekick per turn. Captain America can't attack either.

Not only is your opponent forced into a weird spot, but they cannot even try to get rid of their sidekicks en masse with a huge attack with Red Skull on the board, while they are quickly being eaten away by zombies.

it's also a step in the right direction in terms of wording. even if WK doesn't support more than 1v1 anytime soon they are at least wording things in a way that prevents confusion if/when they do. they do have doubles rules in the book and on the site so maybe it's an effort to encourage that style.

Can do! ( SPOILERS BLACK LANTERNS WILL WIN <3 )

I really do want cards that tie the zombies together like the Black Lanterns have, playing a zombie list would be really cool. Unfortunately, they're currently built to be splashable counters or power cards rather than a coherent archetype. Once I get more zombies though, you bet I'll build a list with them all!
