• The More You Know Vol. 5

Attachment 3727Welcome to the Master Doctor Count Von Homash Mailbag. MDCVHM for short. No 3rd (or 2nd) party questions this week. Maybe I should retitle the article series "Talking to Myself." Either way, I still only edited the parts with dirty words. Here we go!

I thought we might try to go through a few game state decisions this time around, is that alright with you?
    - JThomasH2
MDCVH: I guess so, but if this turns in to you just needing advice, I'm out.

I've seen (and used) a ton of Polymorph recently. I love using it to bring in a big character I just bought or even a smaller character that gives me a perfect advantage or the opportunity to swing for lethal. What about you?
    - JThomasH2
MDCVH: Obviously that's a powerful use. You can also use it to move an opposing Hulk out of the field and bring a Kobold in. If you're running Polymorph and your opponent buys your Poly dice, be prepared to keep character dice out of your used pile to prevent an opponent from being able to use Poly defensively against you. Also, beware action attraction, targetability (or the lack thereof), and redirect effects. These can all mess with your plans and ability to use this action.

How do you get the best bang for your buck out of actions in general?
    - JThomasH2
MDCVH: Any time you can make them cheaper, they can be cost neutral, but all BACs and some other actions only provide generic energy. Some of the actions from early sets do not have a single energy side - instead all 3 energy sides are dual energy. This could prove to be a huge advantage, but be aware that you cannot spin down those dice to spend only one energy. Look for synergy with your characters - for example, Crush Card Virus plus Rare Solomon Grundy is a 2 for 1 KO effect.

What other combinations have you been playing around with?
    - JThomasH2
MDCVH: I haven't quite gotten Black Manta - Deep Sea Deviant to work with WoL and ASM villains yet, but I know there is potential there. Someone just needs to tap into it.

Wait, is the great MDCVH admitting an inability to win given a certain archetype?
    - JThomasH2
MDCVH: No, I'm admitting I mentioned that without having thought about it because it seemed like a good way to get someone else to do the hard part and build it.

I think that's a win for the good guys! What else is going on in your brewing sessions?
    - JThomasH2
MDCVH: I would love to see someone make Millenium Rod work consistently. The problem is your opponent has to field something worth taking control of in the first place. You might invest 6 energy to only be able to take control of a 2 or 3 cost character which your opponent will get back. Even if you attack with it and it goes unblocked, it doesn't go to the used pile, it'll go to the prep area.

Are there any lingering brewing ideas you’d like to share?
    - JThomasH2
    MDCVH: Not really.

That’s a perfect response. Any final thoughts?
    -JThomasH2
MDCVH: I'm not sure words are adequate...

And there you have it - the MDCVH mailbag. Join us again in two weeks when MDCVH answers more questions. At least he will if anyone asks... Don't forget to submit yours to MasterDoctorCountVonHomash@gmail.com!

These brewing discussions (?) are exactly why I read and joined TRP. I've been thinking about using this Black Manta with Blue Beetle Jamie Reyes, Deathstroke Weapons Master, and (insert other cheap villains here). The first time my opponent used this Black Manta on me it stung a lot. Retaliation was new and I just hadn't prepared for it.

Those are good. Add BEWD rare to KO a Villain on your side to trigger BM. retaliation. Make Ultron Drone one of your cheap villains and use its global to force your opponent's beatstick to block and KO your Cheetah common to get her direct damage on her fielding with Blue Beetle/Deathstroke , her attack, and when you trigger BM upon her death.

Black manta, superboy prime -clark, fatality bounty hunter, iceman, beetle, loki lafeyeson, Bleez controlled rage, prof. X trainer +- anti global Sinestro.
      BAC - Outsider + distraction

Use superboy prime as your ko engine for fatality and smile.

I want to use spectre, but haven't found the right use. Maybe with common black manta and venom Mac gargan. But I like Toad better.

      Nice suggestion, thanks.

If you have blues eyes, manta, beetle all included you might as well add R Solomon grundy and UC Vulture.

Deal 1 damage when grundy is fielded. Ko him. Deal retaliation damage (at least 2 in this scenario). Grundy KOs someone. Which means....at least 2 characters left the field so vulture is plus 8. And grundy is prepped to do it again next turn. Success!
