Official Avengers vs. X-Men Page

AvX was the first set release of Dice Masters. Growing on the consistent popularity of the CCGs and capitalizing on the amazing resurgence in superhero interest at large, Dice Masters took a calculated risk and a unique opportunity to expand on a brand genre: the dice building game. The first real dice building game was Quarriors, also produced by WizKids.

The game as received as a critical success - it was even voted as the top game of 2014 by Tom Vassel of The Dice Tower. Despite facing shipping woes early in its release and product demands that were not met in the crucial expanding phase of the game, AvX has outlived its troubles and continued to see common play.

[top]Storyline

"No more Avengers." - Cyclops

AvX is based on the Avengers vs. X-Men Marvel crossover event. This event took place across 8 different and separate tie-ins and included a gargantuan cast of characters including the many Avengers and X-Men squads.

[top]Key Mechanisms

As the originator of all things Dice Masters, AvX contains the first incarnation of several cornerstone mechanics. Concepts that would prove to be core to gameplay include: Churn, Ramp, (unfinished)

[top]Key Team Builds

Due to the set's low buy curve, games within AvX are characteristically fast and furious. Aggro builds tend to win out to Control teams and players are generally rewarded for relentless and quick assaults as compared to managing and controlling Parity.

Despite WizKids assertion that rarity will not inform actual card ability, the Super Rares found in the AvX set were meta shaping and considered core to strategic dominance in the tournament scene. Of the top 4 teams at the 2014 WizKids Open, the most prominent team builds were Tsarina Team and the Gobby Team builds. In fact, all 4 teams featured both of these cards.
