    Interesting Statistics

Since I started playing Dice Masters a few months back, I have been working on a League System and an ERS DB to go along with it. As I am nearing completion, I would like to share some interesting statistics about this game we all play:

Iron Man wins the Most Popular card contest, followed by Captain America.

  3. #3
I actually thought there would be more villains. Great work on the stats!

  4. #4
It is the Max Dice Relative that I find most difficult to believe. I have checked the SQL code a couple of different ways. Right now it is selecting all the cards ordering them by max dice, then grouping them by name. 767 does not seem correct to me at the moment still.

  5. #5
What does that stat mean, if correct? Is it SUM(Largest Max Dice for each character) / (Total Cards)?

If so, do you take into account that, for example, AvX Iron Man dice are not UXM Iron Man dice are not AoU Iron Man dice?

It is closer to simply SUM(Largest Max Dice for each character). According to my DB that number would be 753 plus AoU which I don't have in yet. AoU probably adds 40*4 + 4 zombie = 164 more.

  7. #7
My bad. I thought there was a decimal in front of the 767 and my guess was trying to reconcile that.

  8. #8
SELECT `name`, `subname`,`maxdice`, count(*) FROM (SELECT * FROM `cards` ORDER BY `maxdice` DESC) AS t1 WHERE `subname` NOT LIKE '%BASIC%' GROUP BY `name`
That is the actual beast, It goes and grabs all the cards and orders them greatest to least, so that when they are then grouped, the first instance which is maximum dice is used. Currently there are 217 Unique characters at 5 dice each that would be 1085 dice, but this is showing 767.

And I think I just realized where this went off the tracks. Cyclops is Cyclops in the die count. Let me go back and unique the sets

Ah, once quick little addition and we are at 241 Unique characters. Anyone want to confirm?

I don't know how the SQL code you pasted works, as it would not even run on the databases I know (you cannot 'order by' a subquery or select non grouped attributes). But I think you were going for that:

    SELECT `name`, MAX(`maxdice`) FROM `cards` WHERE `subname` NOT LIKE '%BASIC%' GROUP BY `name`

Then if you want the total:

    SELECT SUM(m) FROM (SELECT MAX(`maxdice`) as M FROM `cards` WHERE `subname` NOT LIKE '%BASIC%' GROUP BY `name`)

You should also put `name`, `set` in the GROUP BY for a better number. However there are more tricks to it with the Organized Play cards. Most of them reuse the normal set dice, but there are some that use their own (they have unique names though - Phoenix Force and Atomica) plus there are OP basic action cards that don't use 'Basic Action Card' as a subtitle. To complicate things more it seems that WoL will reuse the existing JL dice in the same colors (see WoL Batman).

To complicate things more it seems that WoL will reuse the existing JL dice in the same colors (see WoL Batman).
It's MySQL, so the nested selects work just fine because the second one is selected and published as a table to the first select. Adding `setname`,`name` produced the grouping you see posted, where I am grouping first by set, then by name. you just have to be careful to select all the data you want to see in the second request. In this case, I am just pulling back everything. Then if verified all the 5 dice characters, 3 dice characters, and 1 dice. Ring of Magnetism as just a three dice card for example.

So if you check out Hawkeye he is a prime example of specifically your example. He is in the Uncanny Organized Play Set but his dice are reused from AvX.

Cool stats. Question though - What do you mean by 'Chase' cards? Are these the new Zombie cards in AoU? If so, can they be only obtained in that purple rarity? I assume the drop rate for them would be lower than it is for SRs, right?

So the four(4) Cards I have labeled as "Chase" cards are the four (4) full art Zombie cards with the purple stripe.

As for the rest of your question, no idea man. I have heard that the four(4) zombie cards have a Super-Rare Striped version and a Full Art Chase Card version. No idea what the rarity of the Zombie cards are going to be, either version. So when I was pushing content into my DB, I skipped all of the Full Art Cards and only added these four(4) Purple Stripped cards as Chase. Since it isn't a checklist / collectors DB, no reason for me to add duplicate cards. However, I do have a "class" entry where I list cards as Starter, Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super-Rare, and now Chase. I am considering adding in Full Art to "class" and listing the eight(8) full art cards we know about now.

Anyone want to see the un-summed results as a list of Card - Subname - Set - Max dice - Card counts?

Thanks so much, Warg! The summary and the pic have definitely cleared things up for me. I guess going forward if the chase cards will all be "Full Art", it's still probably better to have them classed as "Chase" and other full art promos classed as full art just to avoid confusion. Though then again it may be more confusing for a new comer to browse the DB and see so many sub-classes. #justdbathings haha

That and these chase cards have purple stripes. The full art cards have blue stripes as well: Except Storm, she is special.

Ah I see! Well as long as the releases are consistent going forward, it should be more manageable and less confusing from a DB perspective. There there Storm *pats* :P
