    Both the damage dealt to the blockers, and the damage dealt to the opponent is doubled.

    That isn't at all how I read that. I see doubled damage to the characters and any spillover of that already doubled damage hits your opponent, no reduction, which is also what is implied in that same answer by referencing Indy's scenario a.)
